Colleges at UT
A university is a collection of academic units called colleges. Each college contains its own majors and courses. The University of Toledo has eight:
- The College of Arts & Sciences – UT’s largest and most diverse college, offering all of the core-curriculum classes. From arts to humanities, and natural sciences to social sciences, subjects in A&S are as interesting as the students who study them.
- The College of Business Administration – The world of business is fast paced and constantly changing, therefore, so is UT’s College of Business Administration. Internships, videotaped sales calls and the Neff Stock Trading Floor are just a few examples of how students experience the real world of business.
- The College of Education – Teaching is the one profession that makes all others possible – and UT’s combination of instruction and real-world student teaching provides students with the possibility of having a classroom of their very own. Students help others explore their potential and creativity, while exploring themselves.
- The College of Engineering – A national reputation, cutting-edge facilities and a career-grooming co-op program are all part of UT’s College of Engineering. Students can help design and build an artificial knee, an electric racecar or a super computer. Engineering students are building the future – literally!
- The College of Health and Human Services – Many of the fastest-growing careers start in UT’s College of Health and Human Services. And, with internship, volunteer and service learning components worked into coursework, students are able to do what they love best – help others!
- The College of Pharmacy – A combination of chemistry, biology and other sciences prepare graduates of UT’s College of Pharmacy for nearly 90 careers in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and health-care fields.
- Quest/Undecided – Many students enter UT unsure of what they want to major in. The Quest Program works directly with students to pinpoint the major that fits them best. They also help students fulfill the demanding requirements of some competitive colleges and majors.
- University College – Flexibility and diversity are the heart of UT’s University College. Students can earn their bachelor’s, associate’s or certificate through day, evening or distance learning (Web-based) classes. This college even lets students create their own major through the individualized degree program.
What Majors are Offered at UT?
The University of Toledo offers more than 150 majors, providing your student with a wide variety of options. Are they interested in travel and other countries? Perhaps they should consider majoring in global studies or international business. Do they love science? There are multiple options in all eight colleges to choose from. The opportunities are endless! For detailed information on majors offered at UT, including sample curriculums, have your student visit our Career Series.
Undecided – Quest/Transition Program
Is your student unsure of what they want to study? No problem! Actually, one out of every five students enters college as undecided. The QUEST and Transition programs in the Student Success Center work with students to help them find the major that best fits their interests and talents or prepare them for entry into the college of their choice while working on fulfilling core-curriculum requirements. The program includes a mentorship opportunity for your student to shadow professionals working in their areas of interest to decide which career path they want to pursue.
Transfer Credits
If your student is transferring to UT from another college or university, after applying for admission they need to send all their transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admission for Adult, Transfer, & International Students at:
The University of Toledo
Mail Stop 300
Toledo, OH 43606
An adviser will work with your student and let them know how their credits will transfer to UT, how their credits apply to their major of choice, and what courses they need to take to finish their degree. Visit UT’s Transfer Credit Course Equivalency Guides for fast facts about how a course transfers.
Or, to find detailed information about how your student’s credits will transfer on your own, visit the Course Applicability System (CAS) on the Web. Simply click on the state of Ohio and create a new account, selecting The University of Toledo as the institution. CAS is a quick and easy way to discover how your student’s credits will transfer and apply to their desired program. Plus, it’s a great way to keep track of classes your student has completed and see how close they are to earning their degree!
Post-Secondary or AP Credits
The University of Toledo accepts both Post-Secondary and Advanced Placement Credits. To determine your student’s UT credit/course equivalent for Advanced Placement courses and exams please visit the Office of Undergraduate Admission advanced placement Web page.
The University of Toledo recommends that students with Post-Secondary credits, not taken at UT, load their courses into the Course Applicability System (CAS). CAS will help you and your student determine how and what Post-Secondary courses will transfer and apply to their UT degree. UT will also need official transcripts from your student’s Post-Secondary institution showing course completion and final grades.
For more information regarding UT’s Post-Secondary program, please visit our Student Success Center.
Honors Program
The University of Toledo’s Honors Program has a strong tradition of excellence and provides students with exceptional opportunities – both inside and outside the classroom. Honors students enjoy the benefits of priority registration, smaller classes, an enriched curriculum and community service opportunities. Encourage your student to join the UT Honors Program to receive the best of both worlds – the personal attention of a small liberal arts college combined with the resources of a large state university.
Real-World Experience
Our mission at UT is to provide an education that includes learning, discovery and engagement – and we want our students to apply what they’re learning in the classroom to real-world situations. Therefore, our programs incorporate co-ops, internships, service learning, real-world training and student teaching directly into the curriculum. Your student will receive college credit towards their degree while gaining hands-on experience in their chosen field of study. The University of Toledo also offers state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities to ensure that our students are exposed to the most recent breakthroughs in research and technology to get ahead in the real world.
Study Abroad
Your student can choose from more than twenty study-abroad programs around the world through the UT Office of Study Abroad. They can pick short-term summer or faculty-led activities to inter-term study programs to semester- or year-long exchange programs. The Office of Study Abroad assists students with planning, applications, financial aid and more when pursing a portion of their degree outside of the U.S. Whether they choose to stay as close as Canada or venture as far as China or Australia, the travel opportunities for your student are abundant!

| Tip #12: Your student will benefit more from compliments than from criticism, particularly during transitions. Resist controlling them or judging. Give them the same respect you would give your best friend. | |
